 Basic facts about Organization of Central Asian Co-operation
Considering the importance of strengthening cooperation among the countries of the region in the issues of formation of common area of regional security and stability, development of integration processes and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of political, commercial -economic, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres, the proposal on enlargement of activity framework of the Commonwealth was offered by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, converting it into the Organization of "Central Asian Cooperation", which was reflected in Tashkent Declaration of the heads of states of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on December 28, 2001.
Cardinal objectives of the Organization CAC are:

Rational utilization of water and energy resources and hydro-economic objects subject to the interests of all sides;

Establishment of the all-regional infrastructure of transport system;

Overall development of production cooperation and trade-economic cooperation;

Interaction in humanitarian sphere and solution of ecological problems;

Stirring up cooperation in the issues of strengthening security.
To implement the accepted decisions in the meeting of the heads of member-states of OCAC for the past period, the following steps are taken:

Work on creation of the permanent regional Assembly of the heads of security agencies and law enforcement agencies on prevention the activity of religious extremism and fanaticism in Central Asia is underway.

The meeting of the parliamentarians of the member-states of OCAC was held in Tashkent on November 18, 2002. The meeting of the parliamentarians was aimed at resembling legislation of member-states to promote integration in the region.

Business-forum of business cycles and entrepreneurs of member-states of OCAC was held on November 28-29, 2002. The aim of the forum was discussion of the current and perspective problems of economic co-operation, implementation of joint projects and attraction of investment into the economy of Central Asian states.

Second economic forum was held in Osh on May 6, 2003. There were discussed the issues on strengthening regional co-operation, harmonization of legislation of four countries, facilitation of rules on trade, especially in the border-close districts, and also co-operation in the spheres of tourism and transportation.

On August 1, 2003 the second Meeting of the Heads of Security agencies and Law enforcement agencies was held in Osh on the issues of struggle against terrorism, extremism and illegal drug trafficking. Final document of the Meeting was Protocol, in which participants adopted decisions on further consolidation of efforts and enhancing the effectiveness of interrelationship in struggle against terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking
